A.B.F.M. Magazine Art Studio Prize Recipient: Adrian Amiro
A.B.F.M. Magazine® is honored to present the recipient of the Art Studio Prize, Adrian Amiro.
Adrian Amiro is an artist and jewelry designer based in Tucumcari, NM. Her work often explores the intersection of dreams, mythology, horror, gender, and lore. Her primary mediums are watercolor and mixed media. She has current gallery representation at the Amarillo Art Institute and Idol Art Studios, both in Amarillo, Texas. Her work has also been exhibited in Austin, Texas; New Zealand; Portland, Oregon; Switzerland; elsewhere in the United States; and on the moon as part of the Lunar Codex project. In 2021 and 2025, she was a panelist for the International Association for the Study of Art and Dreams. Her work has also garnered first-place awards from the Artist Circle Gallery in 2021, Best of the Southwest in the Mixed Media category in 2024, and the Amarillo Art Institute Watercolor Competition in 2025. Her art has been published in A.B.F.M. Magazine, The Horror Zine, and Ghostwatch. She is the founder of the Horror Film Art Society and a regular content contributor to Demon Toast Podcast.
I paint mostly in watercolor. Watercolor is a lot like life: you can draw everything exactly how you want it and place the color exactly where you want it to be, but the moment you add water, the colors decide where they want to go. Pieces can get extremely ugly at that point, and it’s your choice to put it away, throw it out, or make it beautiful. I always try to make things beautiful, even when the painting is terrifying.
