Saskia Huitema, a self-taught traditional artist, works from her home in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Her main focus is on portraits, but critters, florals, and landscapes also find their way into her work. She is currently working on a narrative series of paintings titled ‘Realms’.
Saskia aims to portray beauty and emotions, weave tales, and connect with nature in her art. Her work has been exhibited at galleries, Art Fairs, museums, and other venues since 2015. Saskia’s paintings have been adopted in the homes of collectors both nationally and internationally.
This work is part of my series 'Realms'. It was created for the theme of Halloween.
In the series, I explore perspectives, landscapes, and story settings for my subjects. The common thread in these works is a blue feather which seems to beckon the viewer to cross a threshold and have a glimpse into another world. Perhaps urging one to pursue the goal one yearns for.
For this painting, I did a photoshoot with my model, used my own reference photos, and added some imagination. Part of my series titled 'Realms' in which is viewer is offered a glimpse into another world.
