Midnight is the hour of transition, where one day ends and the next is born. It's when the veil between worlds is the thinnest. This painting sits just past that moment. Where the new day is fresh and bright, the old day sits behind it, and only the bare bones of memory remain. Looking ahead, there's a reminder that the new day, like a fresh flower, will begin to lose its petals and end like the day before. Much like life, each day is a cycle, transitioning from birth to death. It's the time in between that gives it meaning.
Rhonda Franks (she/her) is a contemporary realist whose work probes the shadowed edges of the natural world and human experience. Through meticulous detail and a quietly unsettling lens, she illuminates the overlooked, the mysterious, and the liminal moments where beauty and unease coexist. Her darker works invite viewers to pause, question, and uncover stories hidden in plain sight, offering glimpses of nature and life that are as intimate as they are uncanny.
